      3/20/09 Independent Reading Essay due for the third nine weeks.  The grading rubric will be the same as the Summer Reading Project.  Activities include: 1) changing or adding a chapter, 2) creating a collage with a minimum of ten pictures on 8 1/2 x 11 paper along with a one page explanation of how those images represent the story, 3) writing a minimum of three 1-page diary entries for the main character of the book, 4) creating a board game using events from the story, 5) writing about the character you most admire, along with the most important event in the story and lessons learned, or 6) a PowerPoint containing a minimum of 10 slides depicting the characters and plot line.  All of these projects have been discussed in class.  Students who choose alternate texts need a parent's written permission and the teachers signature.
